 Nature Mandalas
🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎🌎

During this activity, you will explore more about the art principles UNITY & BALANCE. You will be using unity and balance to create a mandala. You can find a lot of mandalas exploring nature - spider webs, stars, many flowers like daisies & sunflowers, snowflakes, and tree rings. Be sure to look for Nature’s Art whenever you are outside.

Vocabulary:

Unity: The quality of having all the parts of an artwork look as if they belong or work together.

Balance: The arrangement of all parts of an artwork to create a sense of equality on all sides.
  • Radial Balanceis any type of balance based on a circle with its design extending from a center point. A star, the iris around each pupil of your eyes, a wheel with spokes, and a daisy are examples of radial balance

Mandala: A mandala is a circular structure with radial symmetry, meaning that the design radiates out symmetrically from the center.

Supplies: None Needed - You will find your objects in nature.

Directions: Nature Mandalas

🌲Step One: Go explore your yard or neighborhood (in safe places where you are allowed to go).

🌳Step Two: Collect natural things you can find in similar shape, color, and size.
  • What you can use: Leaves, sticks (you can break up), grass, acorns, rocks, vines, & pine cones you find on the ground
  • Ferns and flowers/flower petals  (ask permission before picking)
  • Having in groups of 4 or 8 will help with creating patterns.
  • Clumps of dirt and sand can be used too.

🌴Step Three: Create your own Mandala.
  • Choose materials/objects that can be repeated (make sure you have enough to repeat your design at least 4 or 8 times
  • Look over the Outline of a Mandala to help organize your objects to create radial balance
  • Start with one object in the middle and go outwards with your design.

➤Remember your mandala should repeat to demonstrate unity and radial balance.  Double check if your objects all repeat correctly and have - similar size, shape, and color. And because it is nature, no two things are going to be EXACTLY the same.

🌳Step FourTake a photo or two of your Art and text it to one of the our phone numbers
